Describing Graphs and Charts

10th Gradeβ€’40 minutes

Learning Objective

I can describe information presented in graphs and charts precisely.

Key Concepts

When describing numbers on a graph that are generally going up, you can use the words rise and increase, but if the numbers are going up quickly, you can use the word soared.

When numbers on a graph are going down, you can use the general term decreased, but if the numbers are going down dramatically, you can say they plummeted.

Adverbs like gradually, dramatically, and significantly can be used to more accurately describe the trends shown on a graph.
