Key Concepts

The Iroquois and Algonquin tribes of the Northeast grew crops called the Three Sisters, which included corn, squash, and beans.

Tribes of the Southeast region, such as the Cherokee and Seminole, were the first Native Americans to organize their societies by chiefdoms.

Native Americans of the Great Plains were initially sedentary, living in Earth Lodges, but became more nomadic as they began hunting bison and buffalo.
