Understanding Track Mattes in After Effects | Beginner Guide Tutorial
Guided Notes
3 key concepts
- 1
In After Effects, the alpha channel determines the opacity of a layer, where white indicates complete opacity, black indicates complete transparency, and shades of gray indicate partial transparency.
- 2
When using Alpha Matte in After Effects, the layer from which you call the alpha will be turned off, and the target layer will only be visible in the alpha section of the specified layer.
- 3
Luma matte is used when you don't have an alpha channel for a selection, and it uses the luminance or intensity of light emitted from a surface to create transparency; Luma Inverted Matte inverts the Luma.
