Your axial bones are found along your body’s vertical axis and provide skeletal support and organ protection, while your appendicular bones make up your limbs and help you move around.

Osteoblasts are bone-building cells that construct bones by secreting collagen and enzymes that absorb minerals, while osteoclasts break down bone tissue through a process called resorption.

Bone remodeling is supervised by osteocytes, which sense stress and strain and direct osteoclasts to break down damaged bone, followed by osteoblasts that rebuild the bone.
