Learning Objective
I can conjugate regular and irregular verbs in French in the present tense.
- 1
To conjugate a regular French verb ending in -ER in the present tense, you must drop the -ER ending from the infinitive and add the appropriate ending to the stem.
- 2
The present tense endings for regular -ER verbs are: -E for 'je', -ES for 'tu', -E for 'il/elle/on', -ONS for 'nous', -EZ for 'vous', and -ENT for 'ils/elles'.
- 3
Verbs ending in -GER or -CER have slight spelling changes to maintain pronunciation, especially in the 'nous' form, where an 'e' is added or a cedilla is used under the 'c'.
