Adding Suffixes to Words Ending in 'Y' | Spelling | EasyTeaching
Guided Notes
3 key concepts
- 1
A suffix is a letter or group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning or function.
- 2
When a base word ends in 'y', change the 'y' to an i before adding a suffix, as in the example study-studied.
- 3
If a base word has a vowel directly before the final 'y', or if the suffix begins with an i, the 'y' stays as it is.
