    There are five main vowels in the alphabet: A, E, I, O, and U.

    If a word has only one vowel, it usually makes its short sound, and we can mark it with a smile symbol.

    The short 'A' sound is heard in words like apple, and the short 'U' sound is heard in words like umbrella.
