Learning Objective
I can correctly pronounce the -ed endings of regular verbs in American English.
- 1
When a regular verb ends in an unvoiced consonant sound, the -ed ending is pronounced as a T sound, such as in the word 'packed'.
- 2
If the final sound of a regular verb is voiced, a vowel, or a diphthong, the -ed ending is pronounced as a D sound, as in the word 'saved'.
- 3
When a regular verb ends in a T or D sound, the -ed ending is pronounced with the 'ih' vowel (as in 'sit') and a D sound, like in the word 'landed'.
