I can apply my knowledge of vowel teams to accurately read unfamiliar words.

    When vowels get together, they can make a vowel team, sometimes making a letter go silent or creating a new sound.

  • 2

    The long I sound can be made by the vowel teams IE as in 'pie,' or IGH as in 'light.'

  • 3

    The long U sound can be made by the vowel teams UE as in 'rescue,' or EU as in 'feud.'
