Learning Objective
I can simplify fractions to their lowest terms.
- 1
Simplifying a fraction means rewriting it using the smallest numerator and denominator numbers possible without changing the fraction's value.
- 2
To simplify fractions: First, replace the numerator and denominator numbers with their prime factors. Then, cancel out any common factors. Finally, re-multiply any remaining factors.
- 3
When simplifying fractions, if you cancel out all factors on the numerator of a fraction, remember to put a 1 in its place, because 1 is always a factor of any number.
