Learning Objective
I can explain and apply the properties of integer exponents to simplify expressions.
- 1
Exponents represent repeated multiplication, just as multiplication represents repeated addition.
- 2
Any number raised to the power of zero is equal to one.
- 3
When multiplying terms with the same base, we add the exponents: xᵃ * xᵇ = xᵃ⁺ᵇ. When dividing, we subtract the exponents: xᵃ / xᵇ = xᵃ⁻ᵇ.
