Guided Notes

3 key concepts

  • 1

The order of operations, often remembered by the acronym PEMDAS, dictates the sequence of operations: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division, and Addition and Subtraction.

  • 2

When faced with multiple operations at the same level (like multiplication and division), it is safest to proceed from left to right to ensure accurate evaluation.

  • 3

When simplifying expressions with nested parentheses, begin by evaluating the innermost parentheses and work your way outward, following the order of operations at each step.
