Reading Passage
Legends Teach Us Lessons
Have you ever heard a story that teaches a lesson? Those stories are sometimes called legends. Legends are old stories that people tell to teach important lessons or morals. A moral is a rule about how to be good or do the right thing.
One famous legend is about a boy who cried wolf. The boy was watching sheep and got bored. To trick the villagers, he shouted, "Wolf! Wolf!" The villagers came running to help, but there was no wolf. The boy laughed. He did this again and again, and each time the villagers came running, only to find the boy was lying.
One day, a real wolf came. The boy cried, "Wolf! Wolf!" But this time, the villagers did not come. They thought he was lying again. The wolf ate the sheep, and the boy learned a hard lesson.
The lesson of the story is: If you lie, people won't believe you, even when you're telling the truth. Legends like this help us learn how to be good people.
