Multiplying by Multiples of 10
Learning Objective
I can multiply a two-digit multiple of 10 by a one-digit number.
Key Concepts
When you multiply a number by 10, every digit shifts one place to the left and you add a trailing zero, so 237 × 10 = 2370.
To multiply a two-digit multiple of 10 by a one-digit number, multiply the tens digit by the one-digit and then add a trailing zero: 70 × 4 → 7 × 4 = 28 so 70 × 4 = 280.
Use the same idea for other problems: 60 × 9 = 540.
