Understanding Your Emotions
Emotions are feelings that we experience inside ourselves. Everyone has emotions, and it’s important to understand them. Being able to name your emotions is the first step in managing them.
Think about a time you felt really happy. Maybe you got a good grade on a test, or you played with your friends. How did your body feel? Maybe you felt like jumping up and down, or you had a big smile on your face. That's your emotion showing itself!
Now, think about a time you felt sad. Maybe you didn't get to play your favorite game, or someone said something mean to you. How did your body feel then? Maybe you felt like crying, or you didn't want to talk to anyone. That's sadness.
Other emotions include anger, fear, and excitement. Anger might make your face feel hot, and fear might make your heart beat fast. Excitement can feel like butterflies in your stomach!
It's okay to feel all sorts of emotions. The important thing is to know what you are feeling and why. When you understand your emotions, you can learn how to handle them in a healthy way. You can talk to a trusted adult, take deep breaths, or find a quiet place to calm down. Recognizing your emotions helps you take care of yourself.
