What Animals Need From Habitats

A habitat is like an animal's home. It is a special place where an animal lives and finds everything it needs to survive. Just like you need certain things to live comfortably, animals also have basic needs that their habitat must provide.

There are four main things every animal needs from its habitat: food, water, shelter, and space. Let's look at each one. First, animals need food to get energy. Different animals eat different things. A deer might eat plants, while a wolf might hunt other animals. Their habitat must have enough of the right kind of food for them.

Second, all living things need water. Animals drink water to stay healthy, and some even live in water. A pond, river, or ocean can be an important source of water for many creatures.

Third, animals need shelter. Shelter protects them from bad weather and from predators, which are animals that hunt them. A bird's nest, a bear's cave, or a rabbit's burrow are all examples of shelter.

Finally, animals need enough space. They need room to find food, hunt, play, and raise their young. If a habitat is too small, animals might not find enough food or water. They might also compete too much with each other for what is available.

When a habitat provides all these important things, animals can do well. If any of these needs are missing or there is not enough of them, animals will struggle to survive. Protecting habitats is important for all living creatures.
