    In a series of outlets, brass screws receive black wires, which carry current, and silver screws receive white (or neutral) wires.

    When wiring outlets in sequence, the black (hot) wire connects to the top brass screw and goes out of the bottom brass screw to the next outlet.

    Ground wires from the line in, two-wire cables, outlet pigtail, and box pigtail are all connected together for safety.
